Storm update...

Just wanted to let everyone know I visited with Uncle Ivan today about storm last night.
When Ann and I saw on tv the storms developing near El Reno, we called Uncle Ivan and Aunt Freda to let them know and Aunt Freda said they were in hall way hunkered down. Well, little did I know there was a NEW airport in El Reno!! I knew the old one was west of their home and thought the storm was headed right for their home.. needless to say, I was wrong.. and BOY was I glad!! I kept thinking we would head there when the storm blew out of town.. but we did not have to.
Uncle Ivan called this am and we talked for a bit before the home health folks came to see about getting him a lift chair, but I wanted to share with you that they are ok. Little to no damage from the storm. No hail either, well, just a bit he said and it was small in size, unlike downtown. He reported rest of the family ok too. All knew and were taking precautions when the storm approached.
Will share more as I learn...
Stillwater received some hail and a bit of rain, but we did not have any damage from the storm. got almost a quarter inch of rain in about 5 seconds.. it seemed.. haha... but everyone is ok.
Heather is headed off to a National Show for her work tomorrow through Sunday and Ann and I will help a bit with the kiddos... Grandma Ann is fired up and excited about helping.
I have been walking 6.25 miles a day for last 20 days straight. I took today off, and am enjoying NOT walking today. My knee is really bothering me, but such is life!
Randi is home from the hospital and we think doing ok as we write this. We have not been told differently. Jake called last evening and all is well in Woodward with him too. Just working long hours and is really physically tired in the evenings. But he loves it and it loves him. He is learning just how big Bronco Drilling is... they are listed on NYSE. The big rig he has been reworking was supposed to move to location in Pandhandle of OK this past Saturday, but it will in fact move out today or tomorrow.
Phil is starting a new chapter in his life. He is to become the new relief mail carrier for route 2 in Perkins. This is the route that Great Grandma Moffat lives on. He will drive on Saturdays, and as needed during the week. He is also doing a brick project for a neighbor who is building a new home.
Jon is about thru with his first semester of "returning to college". He is pooped. He also is now the Manager of Digital Design and Development for the Chickasaw Nation. A big step up from the ole boy who was hired on to work on websites for the Nation. If you don't know much about the Chickasaw Nation, there are lots of things being written about them lately. They are one of the most honored tribes, and most respected in the USA! We are proud he is working with such a great and honored tribe. They put God and family first in all they do.
Ann and I are remodeling the outside of our home, a much needed thing after building it in 1982. This has been interesting.. haha to say the least.
More later.. love to all... Stan

From Uncle Ivan....

The Pasta Diet
1) You walka pasta da bakery.
2) You walka pasta da candy store.
3) You walka pasta da Ice Cream shop.
4) You walka pasta da table and fridge.

And for those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all the conflicting medical studies:

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausage and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION:
Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you!

The Life Raft We Cannot See

The Life Raft We Cannot See
An injured man stranded in the wilderness finds help where he least expected it.

By David Pippenger
This is a true story...

Albeit, the short version.

A man found himself floating down the rapids in a river at the bottom of a canyon, miles from anywhere, in the middle of a wilderness area with his ankle broken in half.
Having been trained on how to get out of the rapids, he determined that he would get to the shore, and he did.

Not having been trained in what to do with a broken ankle in the bottom of a canyon...he determined that he would walk out of the canyon and up the steep, rocky path just as he had come down.

He did not.

You see, his ankle had the deciding vote, and it had decided that walking up a rocky slope was not in its best interest.

So, in an effort to appease the broken ankle, the man tried to walk using a crutch made from a tree.

Which was a brilliant idea...

If he had been walking on a smooth sidewalk going downhill for a short distance.

But he wasn’t.

He was next to a river at the bottom of a canyon, miles from anywhere, in the middle of a wilderness area with his ankle broken in half.

So he decided to think of every possible solution and to choose the best one.

From helicopters to climbing teams, he imagined every possible means to get out of the canyon that was miles from anywhere, in the middle of a wilderness area—with his ankle broken in half.

But while he was thinking, a raft came around the corner.

Which was interesting, because even though he had tried to think of every possible solution he had never thought of a raft.

But that wasn’t all.

Because in the raft was a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician.

Which was particularly interesting, because the man with the broken ankle didn’t know there was such a thing as a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician and he certainly didn’t expect one to be on a raft that he hadn’t even thought of.

Well, the Wilderness EMT made a splint with duct tape and branches from a tree and put the man in his raft, and later that night they camped at a beautiful spot on the river and ate chicken fajitas and strawberry shortcake.

Which was interesting, because the man with the broken ankle thought that he would be eating the dehydrated eggs that he had in his backpack.

Then he realized that a lot of things he hadn’t thought of and a lot of things that he had thought of had turned out in ways that he never thought out.

Which is why I am telling you this story.

I was the man with the broken ankle.

And that day next to the river at the bottom of a canyon, miles from anywhere in the middle of a wilderness area with my ankle broken in half...

I learned that I could not possible imagine all of the amazing things that were in store for me in my life.

Proust says that we shouldn’t look for new vistas, but instead look with fresh eyes.

He’s right.

No matter what life is throwing at us, there us a raft around the corner that we cannot see.

Don’t look for it; it cannot be seen.

Don’t predict when it will appear; it’s not on your timetable.

Don’t doubt that it exists, for doubts will cloud your eyes and cause you to give up before it arrives.

Don’t give up; give in.

Give in to the idea that positive events are in your future, even if you can’t see them.

Give in to the idea that positive events are in your future, even if you can’t imagine what they could possibly be.

There’s a raft around the corner.

Uncle Ivan sent this ditty... about the Lords Prayer, enjoy!

THE LORD'S PRAYER - Rather cleverly done. This is in two parts; the prayer ( in blue type ) and GOD ( in red type ), in response. ********** read outloud to get the whole effect!

Our Father Who Art In Heaven.
Yes?
Don't interrupt me. I'm praying.
But -- you called ME!
Called you?
No, I didn't call you. I'm praying.
Our Father who art in Heaven.
There -- you did it again!
Did what?
Called ME.
You said, "Our Father who art in Heaven"
Well, here I am.
What's on your mind?
But I didn't mean anything by it.
I was, you know, just saying my prayers for the day.
I always say the Lord's Prayer.
It makes me feel good, kind of like fulfilling a duty.
Well, all right.
Go on.
Okay, Hallowed be thy name .
Hold it right there.
What do you mean by that?
By what?
By "Hallowed be thy name"?
It means, it means . . good grief,
I don't know what it means.
How in the world should I know?
It's just a part of the prayer.
By the way, what does it mean?
It means honored, holy, wonderful.
Hey, that makes sense.
I never thought about what 'hallowed' meant before.
Thanks.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Do you really mean that?
Sure, why not?
What are you doing about it?
Doing? Why, nothing, I guess.
I just think it would be kind of neat if you got control -
of everything down here like you have up there.
We're kinda in a mess down here you know.
Yes, I know;
but, have I got control of you?
Well, I go to church.
That isn't what I asked you.
What about your bad temper?
You've really got a problem there, you know.
And then there's the way you spend your money --
all on yourself.
And what about the kind of books you read?
Now hold on just a minute!
Stop picking on me!
I'm just as good as some of the rest of those people at church!
Excuse ME.
I thought you were praying for MY will to be done.
If that is to happen, it will have to start with the ones
who are praying for it.
Like you -- for example.
Oh, all right. I guess I do have some hang-ups.
Now that you mention it,
I could probably name some others.
So could I.
I haven't thought about it very much until now,
but I really would like to cut out some of those things.
I would like to, you know, be really free.
Good. Now we're getting somewhere. We'll work together -- You and ME.
I'm proud of You.
Look, Lord, if you don't mind, I need to finish up here.
This is taking a lot longer than it usually does.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
You need to cut out the bread.
You're overweight as it is.
Hey, wait a minute! What is this?
Here I was doing my religious duty,
and all of a sudden you break in
and remind me of all my hang-ups.
Praying is a dangerous thing.
You just might get what you ask for.
Remember, you called ME -- and here I am.
It's too late to stop now.
Keep praying. ( . . pause . . )
Well, go on.
I'm scared to.
Scared? Of what?
I know what you'll say.
Try me!
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
What about Amy?
See? I knew it!
I knew you would bring her up!
Why, Lord, she's told lies about me, spread stories.
She never paid back the money she owes me.
I've sworn to get even with her!
But -- your prayer --
What about your prayer?
I didn't -- mean it.
Well, at least you're honest.
But, it's quite a load carrying around all that bitterness
and resentment isn't it?
Yes, but I'll feel better as soon as I get even with her.
Boy, have I got some plans for her.
She'll wish she had never been born.
No, you won't feel any better.
You'll feel worse. Revenge isn't sweet.
You know how unhappy you are -- right?
Well, I can change that.
You can? How?
Forgive Amy.
Then, I'll forgive you;
And the hate and the sin will be Amy's problem -- not yours.
You will have settled the problem
as far as you are concerned.
Oh, you know, you're right. You always are.
And more than I want revenge,
I want to be right with You . . (sigh).
All right . all right . . I forgive her.
There now! Wonderful!
How do you feel?
Hmmmm. Well, not bad. Not bad at all!
In fact, I feel pretty great!
You know, I don't think I'll go to bed quite as uptight tonight.
I haven't been getting much rest, you know.
Yeah, I know.
But, you're not through with your prayer are you? Go on.
Oh, all right.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Good! Good! I'll do that.
Just don't put yourself in a place
where you can be tempted.
What do you mean by that?
You know what I mean.
Yeah. I know.
Okay. Go ahead. Finish your prayer.
For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory forever.
Amen.
Do you know what would bring me glory --
What would really make me happy?
No, but I'd like to know.
I want to please you now.
I've really made a mess of things.
I want to truly follow you.
I can see now how great that would be.
So, tell me . . . How do I make you happy?
YOU just did!

Something to think about....

1. The Garden of Eden was in Iraq.

2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!

3. Noah built the ark in Iraq.

4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq

5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq!

6. Isaac's wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq!

7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.

8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.

9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel.

10. Amos cried out in Iraq!

11. Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.

12. Daniel was! in the lion's den in Iraq!

13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq also as the fourth person in the

Fiery furnace!)

14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the "writing on the wall" in Iraq.

15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq.

16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.

17. The wise men were from Iraq

18. Peter preached in Iraq.

19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon, which was a city in Iraq!

An! d you ha ve probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second? It is Iraq! However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia . The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots.

Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible.

No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy associated it than Iraq.

And also, This is something to think about! Since America is typically represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages...

The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)

Koran (9:11 ) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.

(Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmmm?!

Bo is brother of Stoney LaRue, another artist from Stillwater, OK.

Payne County Lines Best New Artist chats with the OColly

Stacey Moore
Staff Writer

The Daily OCollegian sits down with Bo Phillips, Payne County Lines Best New Artist of 2006, to discuss his first CD, family and a fan-favorite original song, Horses.

The Daily OCollegian: First of all, when and where were you born?

Bo Phillips: Houston, Texas, Sept. 11, 1974. We moved around a lot when we were kids; southeastern Oklahoma is pretty much home for me. For the last 10 years or so, its been Stillwater.

TDO: What is your earliest memory of music?

BP: I think as I was being delivered, someone had the radio on in the delivery room. (Laughs) My grandma used to always listen to country music in her house, when I was 4 or 5, thats about as young as I can remember. Shed always be on there, taping them (songs) on cassettes. This was when cassettes were brand new. She was the pioneer of the technological age there.

TDO: How old were you when you learned to play guitar?

BP: Nine years old is when I got my first guitar and taught myself to play.

TDO: Did your family encourage you to pursue music or did they push you to go for a more stable career?

BP: I was raised by my grandparents, actually. My granddad didnt care what I did as long as it wasnt, you know, ditch-digging or something that didnt require a whole lot of work. He would have liked for me to go to college, but he never did push it. Im the only one on either side of my family to ever go to college, so thats kind of a big deal to them, but he actuallyI just now recently started the music deal about a year ago. It was kind of surprising to him because Ive played since I was 9, but Ive never really taken it seriously, more of like living room, back porch kind of playing, and so its kind of a surprise to most of the family when I wanted to do it as a career.

TDO: Where did you go to college?

BP: OSU. Finished up there. Went to junior college at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton.

TDO: What was your major?

BP: At Wilburton, it was ag economics. I graduated bachelors of ag education and I got a masters in educational leadership.

TDO: What do you like to do when you arent singing or playing music?

BP: I like building stuff: carpentry, welding and all kinds of fabrication stuff.

TDO: Are you married?

BP: I have a wife. Weve been together for about nine years now, been married for almost seven.

TDO: Do you have any kids?

BP: Three kids; I have a 6-year-old boy and a set of 16-month-old twins, a boy and a girl.

TDO: Do you live in Stillwater?

BP: I was an ag teacher for six years, so we moved throughout Oklahoma doing that and each move progressively got closer to Stillwater thats where my wifes from. We just moved back to Stillwater about a year ago.

TDO: What do you like about playing at Roosters?

BP: Ive worked out at Tumbleweed for about 10 years, so, since its the same ownership, its kind of like a family atmosphere.

TDO: Is there anything you dont like about it?

BP: About playing here? Smelling like smoke when I go home. (Laughs) Ive never smoked in my life, and thats the only gritch I have about doing it here.

TDO: Whats your favorite thing about Stillwater?

BP: I think the size, actually. Its big enough to have all the things you need, but not so big you have to worry about big-city problems. Theres not a big gang problem here. People pretty much just get along. You got a Wal-Mart, what else do you need?

TDO: What is your favorite original song to play?

BP: As far as meaning, probably More to me. Its one on the CD that I wrote for my wife a couple years ago. The one we have the most fun with, theyve actually played it on the radio numerous times, its called Horses. It started out as a joke and it just blossomed. Its probably not the song you want to be known for for the rest of your career, but hey, its a good jump start, I suppose.

TDO: Do you have a favorite cover you like to play?

BP: I guess my favorite slow cover would be Long black veil; I really enjoy doing that song. And a faster one would be Satisfied.

TDO: Are there any crowd favorites that youre getting sick of?

BP: Sweet Caroline. Im not to the point of being totally sick of it, but its approaching there.

TDO: Now, your Web site is a little mysterious...

BP: (Laughs)

TDO: And I was trying to figure out, is Live at Roosters your first album?

BP: Yeah.

TDO: Where there any unexpected challenges as far as it being a live recording?

BP: Well, I decided to do all the organization myself rather than hire out as far as publicity and getting people together to do it. That wasnt as big a hassle as I thought it would be, but the biggest hassle was dealing with the reproduction, as far as organizing when to have it to them and when they would have it back; things that were not in my hands to control were the things that I had the most headache with.

TDO: Who are your musical influences?

BP: Ive listened to so much music and so many types of music that its almost impossible to pinpoint one group or one person as an influence.

TDO: Who are you listening to right now?

BP: I have some Stoney (Larue) bootlegs that I like to listen to. And Brad Paisley, I really like his stuff.

TDO: What is the most embarrassing CD in your collection?

BP: (Laughs) Well, I dont have any Achy Breaky Heart.

TDO: If you could play a duet with anyone, who would it be?

BP: Anyone in the whole world?

TDO: Dead or alive.

BP: Jesus! (Laughs) I think LeeAnn Womack would be cool, she really likes the Texas/Oklahoma red-dirt type music and you can see her hanging out and doing acoustic stuff. She has just an angelic voice.

TDO: What do you hope to be doing in five years?

BP: Countin the benjamins! (Laughs) I hope to have a well-established band together and playing. Still playing.

Bo Phillips can be heard nightly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and some Fridays at Roosters, 412 S. Washington, or at http://www.myspace.com/bophillipsmusic. For news and a complete schedule, go to http://www.bophillipsmusic.com. Posted by Picasa

got'er Easter Motor running early...

Phil, Tammy and Austyn dropped by Saturday after hunting Easter Eggs at church, and Austyn showed us his big bucket full of eggs he found with lots of goodies inside. Grandma Ann gave him his Easter basket and he opened it and found even more goodies! We had a great short visit. They are going to Doris and Jim Rowland's today for Easter Dinner with MK and Mom. The rest of the family is coming to our home for Easter dinner.. yelp.. you read that right. Something that does not happen that often is about to happen and make ole Grandpa and Grandma Moffat very happpy... Jake got to come in for the day, Jon called and said they moved things around so they are going to be here... and Madison Ann is hope fully going to be well enough to come over with her folks today too.... wow.. how wonderful a day it will be!! Easter with family...

I know some of you don't know it, but I am walking 6.25 miles a day now, and this day, I did not. first day in over 2 weeks that I have not walked. My weight is now at 248... long ways from 299 in hospital, or 360 last Sept 1!! I am feeling much better, but ole knees are really causing me problems. I can not sit or ride in car for over 10 miles... but.. I am hopeful this gets better with time ...

I have been taking photos.. lots and they are online over at dotphoto.com or on the family gallery on PCL.
My web business is really taking off and ole Payne County Line keeps on keeping on with a life of it's own now. We are starting to get lots of respect in the Oklahoma music world from artists and fans alike. One recent deal was a wonderful write up about an artist in Stillwater in the Ocolly. It is cool to see name in print.. haha...

all for now.. much more later..
