NO reason for gasoline going up...

Oil tumbles below $40 for first time since 2004

Oil prices tumbled below $40 for the first time since the summer of 2004 Wednesday despite an announcement from OPEC of a record production cut of 2.2 million barrels a day.

Markets had already priced in a vastly reduced flow of oil and traders focused instead on troubling economic data that points to a long and severe recession.

Light, sweet crude for January delivery tumbled 8 percent, or $3.54, to settle at $40.06 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Benchmark crude prices fell as low as $39.88, a price last seen in July 2004.

"There's just so much oil in inventory out there right now," said Michael Lynch, president of Strategic Energy & Economic Research. "Nobody wants to buy this stuff."

Crude prices have fallen so low, producers have leased supertankers to store the oil at sea, hoping that oil will rebound.

U.S. gasoline inventories continued to rise, the government reported, providing further evidence of a major pullback by American motorists.

Demand for gasoline over the four weeks ended Dec. 12 was 2.7 percent lower than a year earlier.

OPEC had already announced cuts totaling 2 million barrels earlier this year, also with little effect. The unprecedented production cuts and the market reaction show just how fast energy demand has fallen during the worst economic downturn in at least a generation.

"You've got a commodity that people are buying less of because they can't afford to buy more," said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Alaron Trading Corp. "People are fearful. They have a lack of confidence in the economy. They're closing their factories."

Grim economic news radiates out of the U.S., Europe and Asia almost daily as consumers and industries pull back on spending.

The Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. said Wednesday it will cut 1,300 jobs and close a plant in Georgia.

Newell Rubbermaid Inc. is reducing its salaried work force by as much as 10 percent. The Atlanta-based company slashed its fourth-quarter and full-year profit guidance Wednesday.

In Detroit, General Motors Corp. put the brakes on construction of an engine factory trying to hold on to the cash that it has left.

Meanwhile, the dollar suffered its biggest one-day decline against the euro after the Federal Reserve cut a key lending rate target to historic lows.

That would typically lead more investors into the crude market because oil is bought and sold in dollars and you can get more bang for the buck.

But investors in this harsh economic climate are holding onto their wallets like never before, betting there's not enough global demand to support higher crude prices, said Gene McGillian, an analyst at Tradition Energy.

"Oil prices should be a lot stronger," McGillian said.

The last time oil prices dipped below $40 a barrel was July 21, 2004. Prices settled that day at $40.09, according to Peter Beutel, an oil analyst at Cameron Hanover.

Many analysts believe oil prices will continue falling next year with agencies ranging from the U.S. Department of Energy to the International Energy Agency forecasting weak demand.

IHS Global Insight Chief Economist Nariman Behravesh was among the industry experts forecasting lower prices for oil.

"Oil prices will (easily) fall below $40 per barrel in the next year, and could tumble all the way to $30," Behravesh said in a research note. "With the economic outlook deteriorating by the day, futures markets for commodities have not priced in the full extent of the 'demand destruction' taking place."

Doubts also remain about the willingness of some OPEC members to adhere to price-boosting production quotas.

"OPEC has lacked credibility for a long time on discipline," said Gerard Rigby, energy analyst at Fuel First Consulting in Sydney. "OPEC is going to have to show they are committed to the cut, that it's not just talk."

U.S. crude inventories rose slightly last week despite expectations for a drop, while gasoline reserves increased as demand stayed below year-ago levels, according to government data released Wednesday.

Analysts had expected a drop of 900,000 barrels, according to a survey by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos.

Gas prices, because it must be refined from crude, almost always lags the movement in oil prices.

Retail gas prices, which hit a low of $1.656 a gallon on Friday, rose to $1.667 a gallon Wednesday, according to auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express.

In London, February Brent crude rose 97 cents to settle at $45.53 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.

In other Nymex trading, gasoline futures fell 3.45 cents to settle at $1.0055 a gallon. Heating oil fell 1.77 cents to $1.4425 a gallon while natural gas for January delivery fell 15.2 cents to settle at $5.619 per 1,000 cubic feet.

By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace .

Dr Phil proclaimed, 'The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.

So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates.

You have no idea how great I feel right now!

OU's Sam Bradford says return to New York is like a dream

Heisman: OU's Sam Bradford says return to New York is like a dream
By Jake Trotter
Published: December 13, 2008

Eight months later, as a finalist for the 74th Heisman Trophy, Bradford is the talk of the same town.
"If you had told me that then, I would’ve said, ‘Get out of here. You’re lying,’ ” Bradford said. "To be back here is such an incredible honor.
"It’s like a dream.”
Tonight, Bradford and two other hopefuls — Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, the defending Heisman winner — will gather at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, while a national television audience will watch at 7 on ESPN to see which player will be presented with college football’s most coveted individual award.
Bradford, who leads the nation in passing efficiency (186.3) and touchdown passes (48), is considered a slight favorite.
Earlier this week, Bradford came out on top of The Oklahoman’s exit poll, which solicited ballots from 100 Heisman voters.
But this Heisman race figures to be the closest since 1985, when Auburn’s Bo Jackson beat out Iowa quarterback Chuck Long by 46 points.
"I think this year, no one really knows,” Bradford said. "It’s going to be a close race.”
To put some of the anxiety to rest, Bradford and his family planned to visit Top of the Rock Observation Deck at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Friday night.
That was Bradford’s favorite memory from his first New York trip.
"That was the coolest thing we did last time,” he said. "It’s especially cool at nighttime.”
Today before the Heisman presentation, Bradford is looking forward to his first free time since Wednesday, when he traveled to Orlando, Fla., for the College Football Awards. There, Bradford won the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award on Thursday, before flying to New York on Friday.
"I want to get out and walk around the city. There were so many things I didn’t get to see the first time,” he said. "But probably the coolest thing is actually getting to go to the Downtown Athletic Club and see the Heisman presentation.
"That’s something you dream about as a kid. To be part of it is going to be a great experience.”

Unleash Your Greatest Potential

Unleash Your Greatest Potential

Tony Robbins has coached U.S. presidents and Fortune 500 CEOs to unleash their greatest potential. Here he shows YOU how:

1. Raise Your Standards
"Raising your standards turns your shoulds into musts. Everyone has a list of shoulds: 'I should spend more time with my kids. I should lose some weight.' People don't actually change. They just end up 'shoulding' all over themselves. Convert 'shoulds' into 'musts' and your entire life changes."

2. Change Your Limiting Beliefs
"Sometimes your goal is crystal clear but you find yourself failing to act, pulling back or sabotaging yourself. You have inner conflicts based in fear or doubt. Unless you uncover your inner conflicts, they will cause you to fail. When you align your inner beliefs with your goals, you can tap into your fullest potential."

3. Model Strategies That Work
"Success leaves clues. Model someone who is already achieving what you want." It could be a great business, relationship or a fit body. Remember, they aren't lucky; they have strategies that work.

4. Intensify Your Emotions
"It's inevitable that life will hit us with a crushing blow. If you face it head on, it will give you the muscle of life—psychological strength." View it as a gift and find a way to use it. (Think Lance Armstrong.)

5. Give Much More Than You Expect to Receive
The meaning of our lives is shaped by what we give, not what we get. Live every day to give something of value to those around you. You will experience a life of meaning and joy.

I think one of the worst advertisements I have seen this year is....

the Chevy advertisement .... solid like a rock, a Oklahoma Rose Rock??? gosh, what were they thinking

solid like an Oklahoma "rose" rock??? hahaha...

sandstone.... breaks easily... wears away with water... etc..

and this is the same company that just introduced the new model of Hummer....   wowow... no wonder GM is in real trouble....  could be lack of brain power ... haha

now let me be the first to say... Chevy trucks are the absolute best for ride... the best by a country mile... but to compare something, one might need to do their homework.. haha....

and then the worst branding of the year....

can you image the brain power that went into naming the OKC Thunder??  I mean thunder???  having lived my life in "tornado alley"... OK, one learns early in life that in thunder there is NO harm, Nothing to worry about, nothing happens from thunder... it is all noise and no damage... it is all noise.. all bark and NO bite...   so some real brain power was a work naming this newest team in the NBA. How embarrassing to have a team named thunder... wow.. would you want to play on a team named thunder.. to take this a step further... have you ever heard of a sports team named thunder, besides roller derby?  A high school or college team named thunder.. I don't think so.. because no one wants to name their team after something that does NO damage.. haha...  ok... gee I am scared here comes the thunder... haha.. yeah right.. we teach our kids this from early in life, thunder will not hurt you....    etc...

so hats off to the OKC THUNDER, all bark and no bite... and CHEVY TRUCKS, solid... like an Oklahoma ROSE rock.... wow....

Think there has been no worse brand name this pass year, and also no worse comparison... !

but then this is my opinion..  would you care to share yours??

The BCS and the Fox Network have pushed back the release of the final BCS standings and bowl matchups from 5 p.m. to 5:20 on the BCS Selection Show today.

By then, after the release of the USA Today/Coaches Poll and the Harris Interacrive Poll, you should have been able to figure out if it's, as expected, Oklahoma vs. Florida in the championship game.
