Hannah Blankenship may only be seven years old, but she is setting the example for children and adults that "to give is better than to receive."

(Cushing, Okla.)  Hannah Blankenship may only be seven years old, but she is setting the example for children and adults that "to give is better than to receive."

Hannah, a student at Harmony School, is in her second year of 4-H where she has been participating in the Bottle/Bucket Calf Program.  Recently she sold her calves - Skippy and Scratchy - and told her parents that instead of keeping the proceeds, she wanted to give her profits to the American Cancer Society in honor of her three-year-old friend Graem who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

Touched by their child's generosity, her parents Chris and Jennifer matched her amount of $50 and yet another friend chipped-in an additional $20 - bringing the donated amount to a grand total of $120.

When asked if she planned to do it again, Hannah gave a definite nod, along with the hope that others will follow her lead.

"I want them to find a cure for Graem," she said softly.

Hannah presented the money to the Mini-Relayers Team at Friday night's Relay for Life event, May 6, 2011.

but what is rare is to see such intellectual dishonesty

The Intellectual Dishonesty of Nancy Pelosi

Here’s Nancy Pelosi from a press conference on September 7, 2006:
[E]ven if [Osama bin Laden] is caught tomorrow, it is five years too late. He has done more damage the longer he has been out there. But, in fact, the damage that he has done . . . is done. And even to capture him now I don’t think makes us any safer.
And here’s Nancy Pelosi yesterday:
The death of Osama bin Laden marks the most significant development in our fight against al-Qaida. . . . I salute President Obama, his national security team, Director Panetta, our men and women in the intelligence community and military, and other nations who supported this effort for their leadership in achieving this major accomplishment. . . . [T]he death of Osama bin Laden is historic. . . .
This devastating then-and-now comparison comes to us courtesy of John Hinderaker of Power Line. It underscores the degree to which partisanship can ravage people’s fair-mindedness and, in the process, make them look like fools and hacks. Such things aren’t uncommon in politics—but what is rare is to see such intellectual dishonesty proven so conclusively.

Gavin Pearce... is a big man. One of the biggest men I know!

Over the weekend, Kim Pearce called me to share some exciting news that had us both almost in tears!!

Gavin Pearce, 5 years old, has hemophilia. In Gavin's life, he has to have factor every day and sometimes multiple doses daily to keep from bleeding to death. It is not something you get over, but live with forever, and the doses vary with what you do. He does not have the worse case, which is that you can just be sitting and start to bleed, but for a 5 year boy who loves the outdoors and playing basketball and soccer, it is bad enough.

Anyway, Kim, his mom, went to school to learn how to administer the factor. They have several friends who help as well. But on Saturday, Gavin decided he wanted to do it himself. To learn how to do it and just do it. And this 5 year boy took the 500 units of factor from his mom and injected himself, all by himself, without any help!!  What a big big step for Gavin. He now knows he can... save his own life, in a pinch. What an amazing young man. If you have not met him, he is a 'hoot' to be around and will keep you in stitches most of the time. He's an ace with the basketball, so beware if he challenges you to a game...

Anyway, just wanted to share a story about this amazing young man!!

This is a send off for the Stillwater based National Guard unit, 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment who will be deployed to Afghanistan.
The route runs from Airport Road down Washington to Main Street and ends at 12th St. between 8:00 and 9:00 tomorrow (Wednesday).
Salute!

Stillwater and Area Residents can help send off soldiers

Stillwater and Area Residents can help send off soldiers

Supporters will line Main Street as National Guard unit leaves city.

Payne County's state lawmakers will join family members and other supporters in a sendoff for a Stillwater-based Oklahoma National Guard unit Wednesday.
The Stillwater-based headquarters company of the First Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment is set to deploy to Afghanistan as a part of the Oklahoma National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in early summer.
Area residents are invited to line Main Street in Stillwater from 8 a. m. to 9 a. m. Wednesday to show support as the unit passes on its way out of town.
During the deployment, the brigade will conduct full-spectrum operations, meaning it will handle all military operations in a given region. Its tasks will include counter-insurgency operations and construction projects. Members of the brigade also will act as advisers to the Iraqi military and federal police force.
The deployment represents the largest the Oklahoma National Guard has seen since the Korean War. The brigade expects to return in spring 2012.
In a joint release, Reps. Cory Williams, D-Stillwater, and Lee Denney, R-Cushing, announced that they would be present at the event, as will Sen. Jim Halligan, R-Stillwater.
Rachelle Buck, a support specialist for Yellow Ribbon Support Services, said it's important for members of the unit to know that the community supports them.
It's equally important for them to feel confident that their families will continue to receive support during the deployment, she said.
Buck said she is glad the three lawmakers planned to attend the event.
" We were very pleased to hear that they were supporting it," she said.
The brigade held a large deployment ceremony last month at Oklahoma City's Cox Convention Center. The local ceremony is designed to give Stillwater residents the chance to show support for Stillwater area soldiers, Buck said.
