Wow.. did the GOP do good last night or what...???

Not wanting to make this a political site.. but my goodness, hasn't the GOP done quite well in presenting their side of the debate? Great great speeches, and attitude over the top. Guess one thing is for sure, kind of like football on the first day of training where the coach holds up a football and makes the grand statement... this is a football.... We are much better than on Sept 12th! And seem to be getting better with some great leadership at the top! Arnold's speech said it all!!! and said it very very well!
OK.. enough...

Update on Dad...

I wanted to share that since Sunday Dad has been having severe back pains. He ended up in the hospital ER... Monday night.. Jake there about 1 in afternoon.. so two in one day...
Dad is having some problems with bowels working and the terrible pain in his back that hurts him almost all the time. Yesterday morning he was alert and wanting to still go for rides, but was having lots of pain still. Will try to keep everyone updated on his progress.
Mom is doing ok, just busy as can be, quilting, sewing, and lots of other things at home to keep her busy, plus worrying about me and the farm, and ........... well, you know mom's!

Jake's Ophs..... in Tractor vs. Dodge Dually Truck

Jake's Ophs..... in Tractor vs. Dodge Dually Truck, Starring Jake Moffat, we can see what effects the speeding truck had on the turning tractor... Jake was turning into the driveway of the Shultz Ranch where he works, across the street from his Grandma Moffat's home place, with his hand out signaling a left turn.. he was headed south, pulling a John Deere brushhog that he had just mowed the roadside with, when a 2000 Dodge Dually with a 20 year old driver, going at a fast rate of speed, topped the hill and decided he could not stop, so he tried to pass Jake on the 'LEFT" of all places... well, tractor turns over upside down and lands on Jake's grandmothers side of the road, jake goes flying through the air and lands unconcious, and the Dually ends up on the Shultz Side of the road in the Shultz pasture. The mircale of this is... in almost every type of accident of this type, small tractor roll over happening fast, the driver gets pinned underneath the tractor and is usually dead. Our neighbor Nathan Payne, barber who cuts Dad's hair sometimes, son, Puddin.. drove the ambulance and was on the seen quickly, telling Jake when he heard the call come in, he remembered Jake was working for the Shultz Ranch and it was just across from Jake's Grandma's. He said something just told him to hurry cuz it could be Jake... Jake says " It was really awesome to open my eyes and see Pudding standing there to help me! He did an Awesome Job! I was on way to the hay field of our just south of where this happened, but for the first time since 1963, I went down the road a mile east, or else I would have come upon this... and probably would not have been much good to anyone!!! The album of the damage will be posted shortly on the left in photos links.

Dad and Spot taking it all in, in Dad's truck today.

Dad and his dog, Spot. He thinks of Spot often and when we head out to the farm, he needs to feed him some biscuits. Two good friends who truly love seeing each other! Dad had a great day. We checked all the pastures, fed all the cattle, looked at the grass, and checked out the hay. We drove all their land, something he has not done in years! He was like a kid in a candy store! After a neat lunch with chicken and noodles, and Marilyn's fantastic vegtable salad, and Grandma's onions and cucumbers, and ice cream and ... well you get the picture... haha, it was time to head back for a nap, by all!!

Dad is headed back to farm today... hopefully!!

I am headed down to get "his" truck to take Dad out to his farm today. We are going to drive through the pastures and some of the fields and let him see cattle up close and the fields, and the hay I have mowed down. Not much has changed over the years I have learned, with the equipment. Still fighting the AC in the Ford. Now we have the belt staying on, but the AC unit did not work at all yesterday. I have mowed the Piper Sudangrass over by my house and have it baled but not stacked due to case being down. Mowed the Piper at Perkins yesterday along with the burmuda grass on east side of their 80 south of Shultz's. We will check it out.
Jake is doing a marvelous job being among many things the groundskeeper for Shutz Ranch. He is so good that he has got a raise, and is now on call all the time! He is thinking about vo tech school and welding this fall, and it is about fall... !!!
Ann is fixing chicken and noodles and Grandma is bringing over some cumcumbers and onions.. dad's favorite.. and mine too....!!!
Come eat lunch with us, there will be plenty!!! Around noon today or later...
let you know the outcome of the trip later today.

The Nelson Barn on their old farmstead one mile south of Marilyn's home.

I wanted to share this picture of an old barn 1 mile south of Marilyn's. Below is the article about the son of the folks who lived there when we moved to Stillwater in 1960. He was a bit older than I, but I rode the bus with his younger sister, Judith Nelson, who was a first class pianoist and had a wonder singing voice. I helped haul hay and put in this barn in my younger days, and helped Richard stack several times. He was a really neat young man. Just thought this was really neat that someone I knew in my youth would accomplish such great heights. Richard has been to the Perkins Tryon High School on several occasions and spoke. Jake has heard him several times. I will try to put up more of the pictures of it later. It is really unique in its design and has things in its construction a bit different than most barns around this area. Not too many of them left. Enjoy!

Colonel Rohrbough announced that our award recipient for 2000 is VADM Richard A. Nelson, USN, MC, Surgeon General of the Navy and Chief of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
Admiral Nelson became the thirty-third Surgeon General of the Navy and Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery on June 29, 1998. He is a native of Perkins, Oklahoma. Admiral Nelson received a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University and a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Oklahoma. He did his residency in occupational medicine at the University of Cincinnati.
He entered the Navy in 1967 and served at base level hospitals such as Naval Hospital, Corpus Christi, Texas and the Naval Hospital, Bremerton, Washington. After a tour as Head of the Occupational Medicine Branch, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in Washington, DC and the Navy Environmental Health Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, he returned to Bremerton as the Director of Occupational and Environmental Health Services and Fleet Liaison Team coordinator for the Naval Regional Medical Center. Other concurrent assignments in Bremerton included Head of the Medical Department (while the Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, Washington was being commissioned) and Medical Department Head at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Following other assignments in Virginia and Washington DC, Admiral Nelson returned to Naval Hospital, Bremerton this time as Commanding Officer from 1989 to 1991. In 1991, he returned to Norfolk where he had three concurrent assignments as Fleet Surgeon, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; Command Surgeon, U. S. Atlantic Command, and Medical Advisor, Supreme Allied Command Atlantic. While assigned as Commander, Naval Medical Center San Diego, California from 1993-98, Admiral Nelson also was the Lead Agent of TRICARE Region Nine.
Admiral Nelson is certified in Occupational Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and is a member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.
Admiral Nelson has strongly supported the Interagency Institute for Federal Health Care Executives through his active participation in the Surgeon’s General Panel and attending every Graduation Dinner since becoming Surgeon General. He has strongly supported the Alumni Association and its members over the years.
Colonel Rohrbough presented the Association’s Distinguished Service Award for 2000, which included a handsome plaque and a $500 honorarium, to ADM Nelson. Unexpectedly, ADM Nelson, in a jester of kindness and in support of the Association’s new Scholarship Program, returned the check so the money could go to a deserving recipient.

Been putting up hay this week....

Ran by and saw Dad yesterday morning. He simply wants to go home, but knows he is not strong enough yet. He did have the direct feeding tube in his stomach taken out, and he reported... he got sick later in the day.. thinking about it.. haha.. It was supposed to be a simple device that was held in place by an inflatable ballon.. but.. it was not, and the person removing it, just yanked it out, according to Dad!
We talked about a trip home this weekend.. maybe on Sunday.
Had an exciting event yesterday too... Front end of 970 Case tractor fell off and ended up almost being run over by the back wheels!! NO MOM, I was not going tOOOOOOO fast!!! pics later.. haha.. also coming are pics of Phil and Tammys home this summer.. they have tons of unique plants around the outside... cool ones!!
All for not.. later.. Stan

Dad's exciting trip last night... with MK and J....

Just wanted to update things with Dad as I know it. Maybe MK or Jake can enlighten us more.
Last evening, the nursing home took dad to the ER. He had a large knot come up on his chest. They called MK and her and Jake went to ER and stayed and took Dad back to Nursing home after the visit. The knot was from blood bleeding through, seems his cumadin level was 5. And way to high so his blood was way to thin. This is the "rat Killer" stuff dad calls it, that thins blood so there is no clotting to cause problems with his heart valve. While there, they did find the reason for all his itching, and they are treating it now. So all in all, it was a good trip for him. I am sure with MK and Jake, getting home at 2am and up this am was not fun, however!
This is all I know for now. They are adjusting his blood levels over the next few days. Will fill you in with more details as they become available, or maybe MK or Jake will leave a note about things I left out.
Later... S

Jonathan & Randi's new page and baby update...

Hey there everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that I have changed the website for Randi and I (and the upcoming Kaitlyn.) I gave it a new look and changed the host. The new site address is: http://www.backroaddesign.com/jonandrandi.

The new site is more of a "family" site for us, and not just for the baby. But once she gets here, I'm sure that will change.. haha..

Also, a little baby update... Visited the doctor this afternoon, and was told the same thing we have been every time, "things are looking good". He did go ahead and schedule Randi for a growth update ultra sound next Tuesday.

That is all for now, so I will sign off. Great job to Stan for this page... way to go dad!

We were all amazed...

at how wonderful dad was today. We arrived an half hour past nine am... was to be there at 9am.. so he was ready to go. We gathered up an oxygen tank, and Dad and headed to the car, where he commenced to show us how strong he was becoming. By holding onto the car, he pulled himself up to standing position, and then scooted around and set down in Ann's car!! By himself. He has not done anything close to this in over four months! He said he did it cuz he wanted to "Go Home". And we were off to the farm. I think he truly enjoys the trips "on the outside". He loves the fresh air, and the green grass and trees and dogs.. etc and cattle.... We made it for about four hours today. He loved it and was a bit pooped when we went back, of course, it might be the "going back" that pooped him out.. but he was a trooper. We were so glad he came out.. wanted to come out, and glad he wants to do it again. We are shooting for tomorrow afternoon, a small cookout at his home, with Phillip cooking some of his world famous brisket... tomorrow evening. Will, let you know how it goes tomorrow..
Thanks to Jonathan for taking time out of his busy schedule to come up to see his Grandpa.. that truly made his day too. Randi was sick and with the baby coming soon, she stayed home to recoop, so Jon hurried off towards evening to check on her.
All for now.. but, if you see Marilyn, you might ask her about dumpster diving for her truck keys this am.. interesting story.. haha...
Later.... s

The lovebirds! I know Dad was glad to be in his home, first time in four months, and I know we were truly glad he was there, too.

Dad, Mom, Jonathan, Jake, and Ann... part of the family welcome home committee! Marilyn was there and ...........me too. As you can see by the smiles on Dad's face, he was truly GLAD to be home, if even for a few hours... We were there from 10am to about 2pm. Going out we drove around the different farms and checked out the hay, and how green things are in Oklahoma this year. Today it was 52 degrees for a low in Stillwater... in August!

Dad feeding "Spot" a bone with Mom's help. He really misses petting his dog, and being home, and Mom's cooking!
