Rewriting Our History, Changing Our Traditions

December 16, 2009 - 23:23 ET
Watch Glenn Beck weekdays at 5p & 2a ET on Fox News Channel
Person of the Year: Ben Bernanke?
He's the Saddam Hussein of economics. He's one of the "fat cats" that the president says causes the problem. He was on the board of governors of the Federal Reserve from 2002 to 2005 and was chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 2005 to January 2006. In February 2006 he was appointed as a member of the board for a 14-year term and to a four-year term as chairman.
Wall Street and banking CEOs are crucified, but the government guy who's overseen the tanking of our economy is applauded?
Bernanke's victory was bad enough, but the other finalists were even worse. He was up against — I'm not kidding: Usain Bolt (he runs faster than most people); Gen. Stanley McCrystal (who was ignored by Barack Obama); Nancy Pelosi; Steve Jobs and — my favorite finalist — the Chinese worker. Which one? The one that dipped our toys in lead paint or the one that poisoned our dog food?
I could go for the Chinese worker, if Time made it the slave that you are now slave to, but that's not the angle they were going for.
Fast runners, iPod creators, and people employed in Chinese sweatshops making iPods. Hmm, who is missing in this equation? I can't think of any protests or anything like that. There weren't many disagreements with this president. Progressives are jamming bills down our throats and America is just taking it. No questions asked.
How did Time miss the tea party movement or the 9/12 movement?
Time's year in pictures review doesn't include any pictures of either the 9/12 rally or the tax day tea party protests all over the country. But these are some of the most memorable pictures of 2009.
Cindy Sheehan brought 40 people to Crawford, Texas and she was a media darling and included in Time's 2005 year-end review. How do you tell the full, complete story of America and totally miss this massive voice of opposition?
This is the movement that has, so far, stopped the government health care debacle from passing; there's no one else standing in the way. Democrats have the 60 votes they need. What else is holding things up? There is no reason for a Democrat to vote against it unless they fear for their re-election chances. And because of you, they do.
At the very least, I'd expect the tea party protesters and 9/12ers to be included in the way I've grown accustomed to journalists covering them: The tea-bagger people standing in the way of reform.
But it's even worse than just being slandered with lame sex jokes. Millions of Americans united in a belief that government is out of control and needs to scale back the spending, the corruption, the special interests and who are publicly demonstrating their frustration at health care town halls, on tax day and on 9/12, they aren't being mocked anymore. They are being completely ignored. You don't even exist.
But this is not unexpected for people who take the Obamas at their word. Listen to what Michelle Obama has said in the past:
(BEGIN MAY, 2008 VIDEO CLIP)
MICHELLE OBAMA: "Barack knows that we are going to have to make sacrifices; we are going to have to change our conversation; we're going to have to change our traditions, our history; we're going to have to move into a different place as a nation."
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Change our traditions and change our history. What did she mean by that? I think we are starting to see it.
Changing history means not just telling the same old tall tales of the free market system and the Founders. No, it's the history according to progressives. And it's not merely spinning the old facts; it's taking current events and molding them to fit the progressive agenda and, in this case, completely ignoring history.
What else did she say? Change traditions. Here are some facts:
• 92 percent of Americans believe in God
• 83 percent believe public schools should celebrate religious holidays
• 66 percent say they will celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday honoring the birth of Jesus Christ
• Only 6 percent don't celebrate Christmas at all; 3 percent were not sure how to answer
That's what we believe. Those are our traditions. But here's what happens on the ground:
Teachers of a second grade class in Taunton, Massachusetts gave an assignment to their class: Make a Christmas drawing, something that reminds you of the holidays. One of the 8-year-old students knew exactly what he'd draw. He and his family had just visited nearby National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette where they have crucifixion statues. So, the little boy drew a stick figure Jesus hanging on the cross. Makes sense: Christmas is, after all, Jesus' birthday and the crucifix was fresh in his mind.
Now, imagine an 8-year-old boy. He must have been so excited to see how the teachers would react. Like Ralphie in the movie "A Christmas Story," eager to win his teacher's approval of the Red Rider story he concocted. And just like when Ralphie's teacher responded with a "You'll shoot your eyes out" reaction, this boy was also completely devastated. Instead of reacting with praise, the teachers immediately sent him home and ordered that he undergo a psychological evaluation.
Where is the common sense? The principle says "school safety protocols" in place that were followed. They had a safety net in place — great — but they still thought a picture of Jesus fit in the risk category?
Let's go to New Jersey: A third grader was getting ready for quiet time at school. During this time the kids can read a book, sleep, rest or whatever. This little girl, her name is Mariah, decides she's going to read her bible. The teacher walks over to Mariah and tells her that the bible is not appropriate reading material and she has to put it away. Mariah was upset and confused.
See what's happening? Ninety-two percent believe in God; 64 percent celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus. But God is "inappropriate" and what your parents have shown you is so risky you may need a psychological exam?
It doesn't match the real values of the country. But removing God does fit the progressive agenda.
Change history. Change traditions. But you can't just wipe them out, you need to replace it with something. And we are constantly being force-fed the progressive agenda through intentional propaganda:
• NEA art propaganda: Obama-care regularly polls worse than Hillary-care, so they "create" the illusion of support through art
• Those who stand up for the Constitution: Free speech isn't highlighted — no, no! You are part of some crazy right-wing militia
• If you aren't convinced global warming is man-made and it might be that giant ball of fire in the sky slightly fluctuating from time to time, you are a flat-Earther. You think the moon landing was fake? You are a Holocaust denier!
• If you believe in lower taxes for all, are you an opposing voice? Nope, you must hate poor people
• Tea party-goer? Well, you don't even exist. You've been crossed out of the history books
But if you are crossed out, who is being put in?
Dateline, Wisconsin: Teachers at a Wisconsin schools will have to teach the history of organized labor, under a bill signed by Governor Jim Doyle. Doyle added that he was "happy to sign the bill so students would understand the importance of the labor movement."
I know the cheese unions were crucial in building Wisconsin, but really? Let's see, which has been better for Wisconsin: Jesus Christ or the labor unions?
Imagine if the governor came out and signed a bill forcing kids to learn about the positives of Jesus in textbooks? The ACLU would be in full crisis mode.
Where are the teachers? When a politician can not only say what to write — because of a special interest group — but also the importance of it? When they are out of power, who gets their turn to indoctrinate? Every member of the teachers union should be screaming at the top of their lungs.
They are changing our history, changing our traditions and indoctrinating our children.

I know.. here we go again... but if you care about how things get done.. this will enlighten you further..

Completely Reckless, Completely Irresponsible
from the Office of Senator Mitch McConnell
Thursday, December 17, 2009

‘And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen. That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private’
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks on the Senate floor Thursday regarding the importance of getting it right on health care reform:
“Senators on both sides acknowledge that the health care bill we’re considering is among the most significant pieces of legislation any of us will ever consider.
“So it stands to reason that we’d devote significant time and attention to it.
“Indeed, some would argue that we should spend more time and attention on this bill than most — if not every — previous bill we’ve considered.
“The Majority disagrees.
“Why? Because this bill has become a political nightmare for them.
“They know Americans overwhelmingly oppose it, so they want to get it over with.
“Americans are already outraged at the fact that Democrat leaders took their eyes off the ball. Rushing the process on a partisan line makes the situation even worse.
“Americans were told the purpose of reform was to reduce the cost of health care.
“Instead, Democrat leaders produced a $2.5 trillion, 2,074-page monstrosity that vastly expands government, raises taxes, raises premiums, and wrecks Medicare.
“And they want to rush this bill through by Christmas — one of the most significant, far-reaching pieces of legislation in U.S. history. They want to rush it.
“And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen.
“That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private.
“That’s what they intend to bring to the floor and force a vote on before Christmas.
“So this entire process is essentially a charade.
“But let’s just compare the process so far with previous legislation for some perspective. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve done and where we stand:
• The Majority Leader intends to bring this debate to a close as early as this weekend — four days from now, on this $2.5 trillion dollar mistake
• No American who hasn’t been invited into the Majority Leader’s conference room knows what will be in that bill
• This bill has been the pending business of the Senate since the last week of November — less than four weeks ago.
• We started the amendment process two weeks ago.
• We’ve had 21 amendments and motions — less than two a day.
“Now let’s look at how the Senate has dealt with previous legislation.
“No Child Left Behind (2001):
• 21 session days or 7 weeks.
• Roll Call votes: 44
• Number of Amendments offered: 157
“9/11 Commission/Homeland Security Act (2002):
• 19 session days over 7 weeks.
• Roll Call votes: 20
• Number of Amendments offered: 30
“Energy Bill (2002):
• 21 session days over 8 weeks
• Number of Roll Call votes: 36
• Number of Amendments offered: 158
“This isn’t an energy bill. This is an attempt by a majority to take over one sixth of the U.S. economy — to vastly expand the reach and the role of government into the health care decisions of every single American — and they want to be done after one substantive amendment. This is absolutely inexcusable.
“I think Senator Snowe put it best on Tuesday:
‘Given the enormity and complexity,’ she said, ‘I don’t see anything magical about the Christmas deadline if this bill is going to become law in 2014.’
“And I think Senator Snowe’s comments on a lack of bipartisanship at the outset of this debate are also right on point.
“Here’s what she said in late November:
‘I am truly disappointed we are commencing our historic debate on one of the most significant and pressing domestic issues of our time with a process that has forestalled our ability to arrive at broader agreement on some of the most crucial elements of health care reform. The bottom line is, the most consequential health care legislation in the history of our country and the reordering of $33 trillion in health care spending over the coming decade shouldn’t be determined by one vote-margin strategies – surely we can and must do better.’
“The only conceivable justification for rushing this bill is the overwhelming opposition of the American people. Democrats know that the longer Americans see this bill the less they like it. Here’s the latest from Pew. It came out just yesterday.
“A majority (58 percent) of those who have heard a lot about the bills oppose them while only 32 percent favor them.”
“There is no justification for this blind rush — except a political one, and that’s not good enough for the American people.
“And there’s no justification for forcing the Senate to vote on a bill none of us has seen.
“Americans already oppose this bill. The process is just as bad.
“It’s completely reckless, completely irresponsible.”

Something to think about.... if you love numbers... and ....

For each Trillion Dollars the USA borrows, we owe an extra Billion Dollars a MONTH in interest... right now.

and as inflation kicks in, and YES VIRGINA, THERE IS INFLATION COMING, look at how that interest number increases....

inflation has increased some this month...  a very small amount of one percent... but look at the big picture.. and they want to add a trillion dollars worth of health care onto the budget... fixing something that needs fixed CORRECTLY, but simply throwing money at it.. wow.. how unique!

And you know what... we the tax payers pay Federal Workers salaries... and they owe in back taxes 3 billion dollars...  reckon we are enablers for law breakers??  Even the man at the top of the IRS is an admitted TAX CHEAT.  Gosh... isn't that cool...

Can't wait for this popstar President in retirement, and we can maybe finally elect someone who knows leadership and integrity, and character...

Folks hated Bush, why, perhaps it was because he would tell you what he would do, and then do it and never wavier. Hummm in my books that is character,  leadership, and integrity... I realize he had a problem with English and complete sentences.. but then so do I, and most! He will become over the years one of the best Presidents we have ever had, a man for his times, a man who was needed and on whose leadership we could COUNT on!

The President now... is an embarrassment for all, no matter what party you belong to!

Harry Reid's History Lesson

Harry Reid compares the fight for health-care reform to the emancipation and women's suffrage movements.

Majority Leader Harry Reid tarred opponents of his health care bill yesterday as the equivalent of those who opposed equal rights for women and civil rights for blacks.
In a remarkable statement on the Senate floor, Mr. Reid lambasted Republicans for wanting to "slow down" on health care. "You think you've heard these same excuses before? You're right," he said. "In this country there were those who dug in their heels and said, 'Slow down, it's too early. Let's wait. Things aren't bad enough' -- about slavery. When women wanted to vote, [they said] 'Slow down, there will be a better day to do that -- the day isn't quite right. . . .'"
He wrapped up his remarks as follows: "When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today."
Senator Reid's comments were quickly condemned. "Hyperbole. It is over the top. It reminds me of earlier people talking about Nazis," said Juan Williams of NPR and Fox News, author of "Eyes on the Prize," a definitive history of the civil rights movement.
Historians also faulted Mr. Reid's curious reference to the Senate civil rights debates of the 1960s. After all, it was Southern Democrats who mounted an 83-day filibuster of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. The final vote to cut off debate saw 29 Senators in opposition, 80% of them Democrats. Among those voting to block the civil rights bill was West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, who personally filibustered the bill for 14 hours. The next year he also opposed the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Mr. Byrd still sits in the Senate, and indeed preceded Mr. Reid as his party's majority leader until he stepped down from that role in 1989.
The final reason Mr. Reid's comments were so inapt and offensive is that the battles for women's suffrage and civil rights he referred to were about expanding freedom. That's not what the 2,074-page health care bill being debated in the Senate today does, with its 118 new regulatory boards and commissions. Mr. Reid may reach his needed 60 votes to pass his bill this month, but he is pursuing it using the most tawdry and deplorable of tactics.

Fire in Stillwater... from NewsPress....

UPDATE: 2 Downtown Stillwater buildings damaged
By Philip Jankowski

Fire gutted two Main Street businesses this morning.

Smoke plumed out of Edward Jones Investments and James V. Murray Attorney at Law, both located at 919 S. Main St.

A fire alarm from neighboring business Judith Karman Hospice triggered the response of four fire engines at 6:31 a.m., a responding police officer said. Police blocked Main Street between West Eighth and 10th Avenues while the fire was brought under control.

Police were the first on the scene, the officer said. After seeing flames through a window, the Stillwater Fire Department were notified.

Smoke continued to pour out of the building by 8 a.m., though SFD had the fire under control. The fire charred the inside of the business, leaving extensive soot on walls that was visible from Main Street.

“Life will go on,” attorney James V. Murray said while watching the fire from a street corner across from his business.

Fire officials do not have a cause for the fire as of yet.

Shred Like a Geek: Recycled Circuit Board Guitar Picks

These recycled circuit board guitar picks aren't cheap, as far as picks go, but if you're serious about your alt-rock IT garage band's image they may be a necessity. Just don't go tossing them willy-nilly to your screaming fan.
Because at $7 to $8 per pick, that just wouldn't be wise. Unless your fan is a family member. Then you could probably just ask for it back. [Etsy via Technabob]

Opinion

Searching in Vain for the Obama Magic

President Barack Obama's Tuesday speech left a bad taste in many mouths.
Zoom
AFP
President Barack Obama's Tuesday speech left a bad taste in many mouths.
Never before has a speech by President Barack Obama felt as false as his Tuesday address announcing America's new strategy for Afghanistan. It seemed like a campaign speech combined with Bush rhetoric -- and left both dreamers and realists feeling distraught.
One can hardly blame the West Point leadership. The academy commanders did their best to ensure that Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama's speech would be well-received.

Just minutes before the president took the stage inside Eisenhower Hall, the gathered cadets were asked to respond "enthusiastically" to the speech. But it didn't help: The soldiers' reception was cool.

One didn't have to be a cadet on Tuesday to feel a bit of nausea upon hearingObama's speech. It was the least truthful address that he has ever held. He spoke of responsibility, but almost every sentence smelled of party tactics. He demanded sacrifice, but he was unable to say what it was for exactly.
An additional 30,000 US soldiers are to march into Afghanistan -- and then they will march right back out again. America is going to war -- and from there it will continue ahead to peace. It was the speech of a Nobel War Prize laureate.
Just in Time for the Campaign
For each troop movement, Obama had a number to match. US strength in Afghanistan will be tripled relative to the Bush years, a fact that is sure to impress hawks in America. But just 18 months later, just in time for Obama's re-election campaign, the horror of war is to end and the draw down will begin. The doves of peace will be let free.
The speech continued in that vein. It was as though Obama had taken one of his old campaign speeches and merged it with a text from the library of ex-President George W. Bush. Extremists kill in the name of Islam, he said, before adding that it is one of the "world's great religions." He promised that responsibility for the country's security would soon be transferred to the government of President Hamid Karzai -- a government which he said was "corrupt." The Taliban is dangerous and growing stronger. But "America will have to show our strength in the way that we end wars," he added.
It was a dizzying combination of surge and withdrawal, of marching to and fro. The fast pace was reminiscent of plays about the French revolution: Troops enter from the right to loud cannon fire and then they exit to the left. And at the end, the dead are left on stage.
Obama's Magic No Longer Works
But in this case, the public was more disturbed than entertained. Indeed, one could see the phenomenon in a number of places in recent weeks: Obama's magic no longer works. The allure of his words has grown weaker.
It is not he himself who has changed, but rather the benchmark used to evaluate him. For a president, the unit of measurement is real life. A leader is seen by citizens through the prism of their lives -- their job, their household budget, where they live and suffer. And, in the case of the war on terror, where they sometimes die.
Political dreams and yearnings for the future belong elsewhere. That was where the political charmer Obama was able to successfully capture the imaginations of millions of voters. It is a place where campaigners -- particularly those with a talent for oration -- are fond of taking refuge. It is also where Obama set up his campaign headquarters, in an enormous tent called "Hope."
In his speech on America's new Afghanistan strategy, Obama tried to speak to both places. It was two speeches in one. That is why it felt so false. Both dreamers and realists were left feeling distraught.
The American president doesn't need any opponents at the moment. He's already got himself.

WRONG FROM THE START: TOP 10 OUTRAGEOUS CLAIMS ABOUT THE DEMOCRATS’ TRILLION-DOLLAR ‘STIMULUS’

WASHINGTON DEMS HEAD INTO TOMORROW’S “JOBS SUMMIT” WITH A SERIOUS CREDIBILITY PROBLEM
December 2, 2009 | House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) | Permalink

The White House will convene a “jobs summit” tomorrow against a backdrop of rising unemployment, soaring debt, and declining public confidence in the Obama Administration’s economic program.  Washington Democrats staked their credibility on a nearly trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ that was supposed to be about putting people back to work, but has instead produced countless examples of wasteful government spending while more than three million Americans have lost their jobs.  Even the accounting methods designed to keep track of ‘stimulus’ dollars have been widely discredited.  Given the last 11 months of outrageous ‘stimulus’ claims, the American people are right to wonder whether Washington Democrats can be trusted to create jobs and cut the deficit:

1. UNEMPLOYMENT "AT EIGHT PERCENT OR BELOW"

CLAIM: “Just 10 days before taking office, Obama’s top economic advisers [Christina Romer & Jared Bernstein] released a report predicting unemployment would remain at eight percent or below through this year if an economic stimulus plan won congressional approval.” (Associated Press, 6/14/09)

FACT: The nation’s unemployment rate now stands at 10.2 percent.  The President and several members of his economic team explicitly stated that the ‘stimulus’ was needed to avert double-digit unemployment.

2.
 IMPACT FELT "IMMEDIATELY"

CLAIM: “Q: If the president gets his way and gets this package approved, he signs it into law, how soon before -- the American public starts to feel results, the creation of jobs?  NATIONAL ECONOMIC COUNCIL DIRECTOR LAWRENCE SUMMERS: You’ll see the effects begin almost immediately.” (CNN, 2/9/09)

FACT: The U.S. economy has lost more than three million jobs since the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ became law.  One House Democrat this week referred to the ‘stimulus’ as the “jobless American Recovery Act.”  A recent survey found that fewer than one in ten Americans believe the ‘stimulus’ has helped create jobs.

3. "90 PERCENT ... PRIVATE SECTOR"

CLAIM: “More than 90 percent of the jobs created by this plan will be in the private sector.” –President Obama (News conference, 2/9/09)

FACT: “Although President Obama initially said that 90 percent of the jobs created by the stimulus program would be in the private sector, the data suggests that well over half of the jobs claimed so far have been in the public sector.” (The New York Times, 11/4/09)

4. "NO EARMARKS OR PET PROJECTS"

CLAIM: “There will be no earmarks or pet projects in this bill.” –House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (Floor statement, 2/13/09)

FACT: The trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ has produced countless examples of wasteful government spending, including repairs to a bridge that reportedly carries about 260 cars per day, many to a place called Rusty’s Backwater Saloon in Wisconsin, and in North Carolina, where ‘stimulus’ funds were reportedly used by one town to hire a new worker whose job is to apply for more ‘stimulus’ funds from Washington.

5. "A VERY FISCALLY SOUND PACKAGE"

CLAIM: “We must make sure the public understands this is a very fiscally sound package.” –Speaker Nancy Pelosi (
Talk Radio News Service, 3/10/09)

FACT: With the help of the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus,’ the Obama Administration spent more in its first 100 days than all previous presidents have combined.  The national debt has topped $12 trillion for the first time in U.S. history.  The federal government is now operating on a budget that doubles the national debt in five years and triples it in ten.

6. "A LOT MORE JOBS CREATED"

CLAIM: “The second hundred days you’re going to see a lot more jobs created.” –Vice President Joe Biden (ABC’s This Week, 7/5/09)

FACT: The U.S. economy lost roughly 930,000 jobs in June, July, and August.  It was during this period that the President proclaimed he could “see a light at the end of the tunnel.”

7. "A LOT MORE AMMUNITION LEFT"

CLAIM: “There is a lot more ammunition left in the stimulus package.” –Jared Bernstein, the Vice President's chief economist (CNNMoney.com, 10/30/09)

FACT: “The government’s economic stimulus spending has already had its biggest impact and probably won’t contribute to significant growth next year, a top White House adviser said Thursday.” (Associated Press, 10/22/09)  “An interesting tidbit from Dr. Christina Romer’s testimony before the Joint Economic Committee.  Citing economic analysts she says the fiscal stimulus will have its greatest impact on growth in the second and third quarters of 2009. (Editor’s note – those quarters are now behind us).” (ABC News, 10/22/09)

8. MORE WORK, NOT MORE JOBS

CLAIM: “I think we got the Recovery Act right. … It may be desirable to have a given amount of work shared among more people. But that’s not as desirable as expanding the total amount of work.” –National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers (The Washington Post, 11/8/09)

FACT: The Obama Administration’s attempt to suddenly make job creation seem like a lesser goal of the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ flies in the face of numerous public statements made in the days before the bill was passed, including the President’s statement that creating jobs was his “bottom-line number one.”

9. RAISES SAVE JOBS

CLAIM: “If I give you a raise, it is going to save a portion of your job.” –Department of Health and Human Services spokesman (Associated Press, 11/4/09)

FACT: This is one of several attempts by the Obama Administration to define a job “saved or created” by the ‘stimulus.’  In this particular case, the AP found “more than 9,300 existing employees in more than 9,300 existing employees in hundreds of local agencies who received pay raises and benefits and whose jobs weren’t saved.”  In a newly released report, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office states that “it is impossible to determine how many of the reported jobs would have existed in the absence of the stimulus package.”

10. "YOU HAVEN'T SEEN WASTEFUL SPENDING"

CLAIM: “We’ve been in business seven, eight months. You haven’t seen wasteful spending. No one has said we spent $2 million on things that didn’t exist.” –Vice President Joe Biden (The Daily Show, 11/17/09)

FACT: “Stimulus jobs reported in non-existent congressional districts. … Of all the problems found in the latest round of stimulus reporting, add another one: congressional districts that don’t exist.  ABC News reported yesterday that White House officials have found 700 mistakenly credited congressional districts out of more than 130,000 stimulus grants.” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 11/18/09)  “The reports on jobs created or saved by the $787 billion economic stimulus package are ‘riddled with inaccuracies and contradictions,’ the federal watchdog overseeing the spending acknowledged Thursday.” (USA TODAY, 11/19/09)

BONUS. REPUBLICAN SOLUTIONS

CLAIM: “Vice President Biden offered an impassioned defense of the Obama administration’s policies on the economy, health care, and energy this morning… He chastised administration opponents for not offering alternatives to solve the problems of the nation.” (Philadelphia Inquirer, 11/23/09)

FACT: “House Republicans Press Obama on Job Creation.  House Republicans sent a letter to President Barack Obama today, pushing the administration to seek more business tax breaks as a way to boost the number of new jobs. … Republicans say in their letter that they’re hoping to work with the White House toward a bipartisan jobs plan.” (WSJ Washington Wire, 10/7/09)  The proposals contained in the October letter, some of which were presented to President Obama as early as his first week in office, were developed by House Republicans' Economic Recovery and Health Care solutions groups.  Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA), who heads up the Economic Recovery Solutions Group, will discuss additional proposals to spur job creation in a speech today at the Heritage Foundation.
